Personal Style Starting Young
August 11th, 2011
I love finding unique comfortable clothing for my little man, but finding clothing that promotes expression, creativity and permission to show individual style can be challenging in a sea of Gap kids.
I often shop for clothes for kids online and most recently I found a great shop called Ellos where I found these pieces that I just had to pick up.
Aren’t they so hip and sweet?
Ok, I will admit that I don’t think Curtis cares what I dress him in now. But, it’s not a bad idea to get a head start on teaching him to be choose clothing that he feels great in and that shows his personality.
Lastly, please don’t spend a fortune on kids clothing and if you do, make sure that you pass it on!

Top 5 Must Have’s for Your Pregnancy Wardrobe
July 19th, 2011
I loved being pregnant and dressing to flaunt my baby curves. I encourage and invite all pregnant women to enjoy their changing body and the wardrobe changes it requires. Don’t stress over your shrinking wardrobe with a few key pieces you will have your go to outfits and the feel good vibes that come from looking your best!
1. Maternity jeans: choose a classic style, so that they can be worn for the next pregnancy as well. Treat yourself and invest in a pair you LOVE!
2. Maternity Bump Bands: this piece will stretch your clothing options and prevent baring your midriff.
3. A new bra or two: enjoy your new cleavage in a bra that fits!
4. A cozy cardigan: like the one pictured, you’ll want to live in this after the baby is born too.
5. A pretty tunic or dress: invest in a go-to dress that will allow you to grow comfortably. I lived in dresses and tunics during my pregnancy. So comfy and fun to wear!

Wooden Toys: Why they are better for your babies
June 8th, 2011
When it comes to your children every mum knows that you are always on the lookout for tips to improve your child’s quality of life. The toys that your baby plays with are obviously important; you will look for small pieces they could swallow or anything which could harm them. Have any of you ever thought about Eco toys?
Wooden toys are one of the best things for your young child to play with. If your bundle of joy suffers from allergies wooden toys are the perfect solution. They are hypo-allergenic which means they won’t set off any allergies your little one has. Also as we all know babies like to put everything in their mouths. Plastic toys maybe treated with high levels of chemicals and toxins which could be harmful. With wooden toys there are none of these toxins so your baby is free to play with their toy without you worrying.
Wooden toys are also good for the environment, as they are often made of sustainable wood. The toys are 100% recyclable and biodegradable which means you are doing less harm to the environment when disposing of them. They are also easy to clean which is a big help for all you busy mums out there.
Wooden toys encourage imaginative play, unlike modern toys today that serve as a distraction. This kind of play is going to help with your child’s development and develop the way they interact with others.

I’m a Warrior Mom and You Can be too!
May 30th, 2011
I am a warrior mom and you can be too. I hope you’re reading this and you either have no idea what I’m talking about or you totally get it and have already shined through it.
Otherwise, you may be a mom who’s looking for strength and guidance to get through postpartum depression, anxiety or any mood disorder and is that’s you then I hope this post with help.
I’m actually writing this after having a really junky evening, I’m 10 months post partum and have gone through a very challenging time. I have been battling postpartum anxiety/ocd which at its worst makes me very depressed at it’s best is an annoying self defeating voice in my head that spews fear based thoughts.
I’ve shined through the hard moment night and can see and feel clearly at this moment. It’s crystal clear on the other side, but when you’re in ‘it’ it’s hard to remember that there’s another side. The other side is where you deserve to be and stay. It’s where your light is, where your true self is (despite what the ego will have you to believe).
I’m having so many more good days and great moments and when the ‘little bastard’ finds a way of sneaking in I am stronger now then I was a month ago, 2 months ago and definitely stronger then I was when it first hit 10 months ago. I can look back and be so grateful that there are no more hysterical breakdowns where I’m being driven to the nearest practitioner, healer, hyponotherapist, you name it.
I now take an active role in my personal development and healing. Turning to resources and tools that make me feel great, for the pleasure of it, not the cure. I don’t need to be ‘cured’ I need to love myself and embrace the moment. Nurturing myself mentally and physically is the way to heal and for ongoing life long happiness.
Here are a few resources & tools that I love:
All of the above will support you on your journey and give you strength. Remember that you and your best teacher, your guru lives within you. You have the answers, sit, be still, ask and listen.
This can be a devastating time for moms and her family, but please be strong, don’t listen to those negative thoughts and be sure to have many people and healthy outlets to pull you out of the darkness into the light.
What helped me most today is talking honestly about my thoughts and fears to trusted mentors and confidents. I even made a deal with my friend who’s on the same spiritual seeking path. We made the deal that we would be each others “ego outers” which I learned from my dear online mentor Gabby, check out her vlog on this topic here.
I will personally offer my ear and open my heart to any mom who’s having a hard time. Call me anytime of day and I will we there to listen so you can bring the ghouls and gremlins out to the light where you can see them for what they are and they aren’t that scary after all.
Peace, light & love

Have your kids be Human Body Detectives
May 26th, 2011
When my kids were younger, I spent time in their preschool and elementary classrooms, talking about the digestive system and nutrition. The kids were so enthusiastic and excited about learning about their bodies that it led me to search for books about the human body, healthy eating, and food choices. In my search for books and resources, I discovered there were very few resources that made learning about these topics fun and engaging for kids. Hoping to fill that void in the marketplace, Human Body Detectives (HBD) was born.
That is how it all started. I realized that kids love learning about how their bodies work, and if it was available in an engaging adventurous way, with a little weaving in of nutrition, kids would gravitate towards it. And in return, this would provide a profound, longterm healthy effect on kids.
Kids are loving the Human Body Detectives series. The first edition was an entertaining audio story, with an accompanying activity workbook filled with puzzles, games, and stickers. Many people ( and kids) requested the series be available in a story book format, so I listened and I am happy to announce the launch of HBD: The Lucky Escape, a journey through the digestive system, HBD: Battle with the Bugs, a journey through the immune system, and HBD: A Heart Pumping Adventure, a journey through the circulatory system, all available in story book format and ebooks.
There are a few ways that you can encourage your kids on an everyday to be their own little detectives. It’s a fantastic to way to bring awareness to your child that will carry through their life and to create optimal health.
I am a big advocate for having kids be proactive in their everyday life. I believe it makes them strong, independent and more aware of their actions and feelings. In the long run, it will make them healthy – optimally healthy!
Be well,
Dr. Heather

Ready to Head South and Pregnant? Maternity Beach Style
April 6th, 2011

Hi Hot Mamas to be!
You’re super excited for your beach vaca, maybe it’s a little chill time before motherhood or a family vaca to bond before the little one arrives… Either way you’re a little stressed about what to wear on the beach!
Petite Fashionista has you covered!
In my online shopping research for maternity swimwear I came across some super fun looks to inspire you!
Look at the hot mama on the left! This suit is from www.mamasandpapas.com
Visit PetiteFashionista.com for my top 3 looks and tips!
But first, here are 3 tips for flattering maternity beach style:
1. Halter styles with V cuts bring the eye up, creating an elongating effect.
2. Make every skinny girl on the beach green with envy by wearing a gorgeous indian inspired caftan, you’ll feel like a goddess and you’ll be wearing it post baby for sure!
3. The day before you go to the beach, exfoliate really well and use a firming lotion like this one (use this every day during pregnancy to avoid stretch marks) and add a little bit of self tanner (this one is paraben free) to the lotion and rub it all over your legs, thighs and bum.
Have fun in the sun mama, your baby will love the relaxation too!
xo
