Potty Training with Sign Language
Posted on May 05, 2011 by signingmom

All parents will realize the challenges of potty training their little ones. Some children are very open to learning to go to the potty, while others are a little more reluctant. For myself, I had one child who was completely potty trained within 2 weeks and another who took almost a year! Every child is learns in a different way, so parents need to adjust to accommodate each child.
Sign language can be a great addition to your little one’s potty training education. Below are some tips/strategies that may help ease potty training distress:
- Start Early: Introduce Diaper Change signs as early as possible to teach your baby these signs that will become familiar later on (i.e. Diaper, Wet, Dirty).
- Potty Sign: Teach the Potty sign when introducing the potty training. Sign before, during, and after each session to enhance learning.
- Have Fun Washing Hands: Sign the word WASH when washing hands. Use some special kid soap so that they may be more inclined to wash their hands.
- Baby Signs Potty Training Kit: For even more sign language assistance, purchase Baby Signs Potty Training Kit! I used this kit with my child and she absolutely loved it! The kit comes complete with parent training manual, Potty Train DVD, Potty Train Book, Potty Train stickers. and a Potty Train whistle.

GOOD LUCK!
